  • Mother, acrylic on canvas, 40"x60", $4200 unframed

    Mother, acrylic on canvas, 40″x60″

    Private Collection of the Artist

Mother is seen in the relationship between the doe and the fawn, between Mother Nature and the deer, the forest, the water, the air … and we human beings.

Balance and harmony are key in these relationships and within the elements of the painting itself.
Sky, land and water are balanced in their composition and colour.

Horizontal lines of blues in sky and water border the warm colours of the land. The birch trees cut through the horizontal sections in both their vertical direction and their bold blacks and whites, holding the overall composition together in its framework.

The mother deer is protective in her stance, standing guard over her fawn as it safely nourishes itself from the lake.
The birch trees stand as sentries, providing the deer with their protective cover. They stand straight and tall, holding the land and reaching into the sky, being nourished by and benefiting our environment and, in turn, us.

“Mother” invites the viewer into the scene. As the doe protectively holds our gaze, the viewer is drawn into the richly textured forest.  What will our relationship be with our wilderness environment?

  • Take Off! acrylic on canvas, 48" x 24", $3200 unframed

Take Off! acrylic on canvas, 48″ x 24″, framed

    Private Collection of the Artist

“Take Off” was born out of a canoe expedition with friends down the Lièvre river.

As were enjoying the river’s tranquil flow , cutting through the bordering hills and forests,
we suddenly came upon a flock of Canadian Geese.
The geese were also enjoying the day’s calmness of the Lièvre. We, however, were unwanted intruders on their peacefulness.

With seemingly much effort and commotion, the geese took off from the river.
The cycling of their legs and webbed feet,
the sparkling splashes of water, the flapping of huge wings and
the symmetry of motion within the flock as they followed their leader
    were all something to behold!

A memory was created, a sketch was born, and a brush took to canvas…
with balance, harmony and movement capturing the memorable take off!

  • Making Tracks – 24" x 24", acrylic on canvas, $1300, framed in walnut

Making Tracks – 24″ x 24″, acrylic on canvas, $1350, framed in walnut

    $1,350.00

In Making Tracks, I wanted to capture the invigorating magic of a crisp winter day, where a deer and a skier briefly share a synchronized path through the snow. The composition is built on a dynamic tension of direction: the horizontal stride of the deer and the bright red tips of the skis create rapid movement across the canvas, which is grounded and held still by the rigid vertical lines of the birch trees and their long, angled blue shadows.

The realistic form of the leaping deer is set within a stylized, slightly surreal woodland environment. I built the dense background forest out of a mosaic of pastel pinks, yellows, and blues, contrasting sharply against the stark white terrain to give the scene a fairytale-like luminosity. While the ski tracks cut directly through the deer’s natural habitat, the composition deliberately shows both subjects traveling side-by-side in the same direction. Rather than representing a conflict between human recreation and wild spaces, the shared lines suggest a rare moment of harmony- a portrait of a skier moving completely in tune with the rhythm of the woods.

  • Hope and the Eagle, acrylic on canvas, 16"x20", $780 unframed

Hope and the Eagle, acrylic on canvas, 20″x16″, $850 framed

    $850.00

“Hope and the Eagle” follows the earlier “Homecoming” painting, which celebrated the return of the Bald Eagle after years of environmental damage largely due to DDTs resulted in a severe decrease to our eagle population, landing them onto the endangered list. Positive action and change has seen our majestic residents return to our rivers and lakes- A great example of how humans can successfully act to help a once endangered species.

In “Hope and the Eagle”, the foreground highlights the environmental effect of our recent countrywide wildfires, with the background aglow with an autumn hillscape untouched by the fires.

The Bald Eagle looks down upon this landscape, a symbol of strength and hope, and a call to each viewer to again act in response to environmental issues.

  • Watching from the Treetops, acrylic on canvas, 12"x12", $480 unframed

Watching from the Treetops, acrylic on canvas, 12″x12″, $550 framed

    $550.00

Not everyone appreciates the wild turkey, but I loved having this shy bird unexpectedly visit me every day for one week at the lake. I’m amazed at the beautiful patterned browns, oranges and greys of the feathers, and am surprised at this large bird’s quickness and agility- as it ran and flew away at my slightest movement.

In Watching from the Treetops, the trees’ lines and their bold, vibrant reds frame and support the turkey, both literally and symbolically. The Wild Turkey is the focus, standing alert atop a branch.  The scene is autumn, leaves having already fallen- a potentially dangerous time for this particular game fowl.

  • Are We There Yet? acrylic on canvas, 16"x20", $720 unframed

Are We There Yet? acrylic on canvas, 16″x20″, $850 framed

    $850.00

Every parent has heard these words, and every child has uttered them. Are We There Yet? has fun with this timeless scenario, capturing a common merganser parent as it confidently carries three ducklings on its back across the water. While the title playfully transposes a universal human experience onto wildlife, the instinct to protect, guide, and safeguard our young remains a profound truth shared by both humankind and our feathered friends.

The composition highlights my signature blending of Post-Impressionism, subtle surrealism, and Woodland art. By placing the realistic ducks against a highly stylized backdrop, the canvas pulses with graphic energy. I built the setting sun and sky from a dense tapestry of vibrant orange, pink, and yellow pointillist dabs, which contrast sharply against the rhythmic purple and blue mosaic patterns of the water. This bold juxtaposition transforms a familiar shoreline evening into a joyful narrative celebrating the enduring bonds of family in the wild.

  • Here We Are, acrylic on canvas, 12"x12", $480 unframed

Here We Are, acrylic on canvas, 12″x12″, $550 framed

    $550.00

In Here We Are, the Great Horned Owls mesmerize us with their gaze. Owls are often unseen, being  nocturnal, often silent and well camouflaged. But they are strong and powerful.

The Great Horned Owl has been particularly adept at adapting to climate change, changing habitats and nesting sites and tolerating disturbances. However, climate change may also be harming the relationships with prey, which could lead to population decline.

In Here We Are, the owls stare directly at us, protective, yet powerful, letting us know that this force is Their home

  • Faster! Faster!, acrylic on canvas, 16"x20", $720 unframed

Faster! Faster!, acrylic on canvas, 16″x20″, $850 framed

    $850.00

Faster! Faster! is full of playfulness. The vivid, sunny colours and how they contrast each other, the movement within the lines and the subjects themselves all add to this playfulness, taking us along for the ride.

The mergansers and the fish all head in the same direction, seemingly all part of this game. Balance and harmony are held within the subjects themselves, emphasized by the balance in colour and composition.

The yellows of the sky and the yellows of the line of perch frame the greens and blues within the hills and lake. These all work together to hold the mergansers, contrasting to and highlighting the birds’ siennas, browns , whites and blue-greys.

Imagine a perfect day, when you, those you love, and all of nature seem aligned- when magic becomes real. This painting represents one such day. It is named for a dear friend, Shauna, whose gentle presence seems to invite the trust of the wild. During her cottage visit, we experienced an unprecedented abundance of wildlife sightings, culminating as a majestic buck swam directly toward us while we sat contentedly on the dock.

In The Perfect Day, the swimming buck serves as the focal point, embodying that unforgettable encounter. To convey the thriving lifecycle of the lake, a multitude of fish are shown manoeuvring seamlessly past the buck’s pumping legs. The animals are treated with physical realism, blending into subtle surrealism through the use of shimmering metallic paints that reveal their fully submerged bodies below the water line.

Set against a pulsing mosaic sky and patterned, rolling hills, the composition utilizes a bold, graphic rhythm to transform a personal memory into a timeless celebration of natural connection.
