Can a rapidly changing ecosystem still be considered a sanctuary? This question anchored my vision for Above and Below.
Moving past traditional landscapes, I used rhythmic linework to texture the monumental icebergs and contrasting patterns to define the open water. By placing orcas at the center of the frame, I wanted to acknowledge their increasing presence in these warming waters and the profound implications it holds for the entire Arctic food web.
Structurally connecting the distant sailboat to the triangular icebergs further weaves the human element into this fragile narrative. Its red and white sails serve as a subtle nod to Canadian sovereignty within our wondrous North, inviting you to consider our own connection to this changing landscape.
