Snowy Pursuit, acrylic on canvas, 36″x36″, $2000
Solo Exhibition at Galerie LaFab Oct 17 – Dec 6, 2026 https://lafabsurmill.ca/visual-arts/gallery/
In Snowy Pursuit, I wanted to map the high-stakes drama of the Arctic skies by exploring the concepts of presence and absence. This square canvas captures a snowy owl in full mid-flight, its sweeping, intricate barred wings extending across the frame as its intense yellow eyes lock onto a trail below. Across the frozen landscape, a clear path of Arctic hare tracks charts a frantic escape over the sea ice. Rather than documenting a simple chase, this scene draws a direct parallel to the exhibition’s core theme: tracing the subtle footsteps left behind by northern life.
To elevate this pursuit into a statement on presence, I chose to make the landscape itself vibrate with a pulsing energy. I built the expansive sea ice from a meticulous grid of white mosaic tiles, providing a stark, high-contrast backdrop that forces the eye to track those small, detailed blue prints. By framing this aerial vantage point against a jagged mountain range and a sky filled with a dense, colourful field of turquoise and lilac tiles, my goal is to invite you to follow the literal tracks of survival – and contemplate the weight of our own delicate footprint on this frozen sanctuary.
